A blend of biology, chemistry and physics

Colour and light energy are essential to our existence. The sun’s energy sustains life, and within its light lies the visible spectrum - the colours we see in the rainbow. Each one of these colours, along with countless others beyond our perception, has its own unique frequency and wavelength, influencing how our bodies function. This serves as a reminder that, despite our increasingly indoor, sedentary lifestyles, humans are inherently connected to nature, light and the outdoors.

Given this, it’s no surprise many of us feel constantly fatigued, overstimulated or simply “off”. The demands of long work hours, excessive screen time, rushed meals and limited downtime disrupt our circadian rhythms, creating a constant imbalance between our bodies and the fast-paced world we live in.

Sounding familiar? Here’s how colour can help

How often do you notice the colours surrounding you?

You know which colours you like and those you don’t, but do you really know why?

Your preferences and use of colour can show what is going on deep within your psyche to reveal energy blockages, past traumas and your present state of mind. Energy imbalance can manifest in a multitude of ways and colour energy can help restore harmony throughout the mind and body when we recognise how to harness it. Light, clothing, scent, décor and food are all part of our everyday lives and can be used to implement the restorative benefits of colour.

Colour energy in the body

Each part of the body is affiliated with a colour. Energy wheels, known as chakras, are positioned throughout the body from the base to the crown.

Often, we experience too much or too little of the relevant colour energy in the affiliated area. For many reasons, energy can become imbalanced, blocked or broken.

  • Physical symptoms can show up as headaches, poor digestion, tiredness, feeling cold, stiff joints or throat infections to name a few.

  • Emotionally you may be feeling low, anxious, resentful, angry, irritable or unable to experience joy.

  • Spiritually, you may find yourself feeling disconnected, unfulfilled, uninspired or lacking purpose & direction.

Here is where colour energy, alongside tried and tested wellbeing practices, can be used to help restore harmony in the chakras.

Let’s not forget the importance of the profound physiological effects that light and colour have on our metabolism, nervous system and circadian rhythms. In this fast-paced, disconnected and digital world, there has never been a better time to get reacquainted with our bodies and really listen to what they are telling us!

Ways to use colour

Oh so many ways! There is no one-size fits all when it comes to using colour and my recommendations are tailored to individual requirements. Here are some examples of how colour can be used in daily life -

  • inject a pop of colour into your wardrobe to inspire confidence

  • use uplifting essential oils during your morning shower for energy

  • embrace your creativity with painting, dancing or writing

  • welcome stillness with breathing exercises and colour visualisation

  • improve your sleep quality by changing your nightwear or bedroom décor

  • introduce more colourful food into your meals for some zest

My approach encompasses all of the senses which makes incorporating the recommendations manageable and cost-effective, not to mention more fun!
